St Philomena Children’s Home is a social welfare organization that is governed by the Coptic Orthodox Church. We work in lieu of the Department of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation. We work together towards meeting the children’s physical needs, emotional needs, intellectual needs and spiritual needs so they can excel in life and have a much brighter future. We accept children from new born till 18 years old boys and girls. The children come from different ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. They are placed in the Home for various reasons. Some of them have been abandoned, neglected, abused, facing violence or forced to beg on the streets.

THE COPTC ORTHODOX CHURCH |
The Coptic Orthodox Church has existed for 2000 years, faithfully keeping the commands of our Lord Jesus Christ as it was passed on to the apostles and early church fathers.
It was established in Egypt by the apostle and evangelist St. Mark, who also wrote the second Gospel in the year 61 AD. Today, the current Patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church, who is the 117th successor of St Mark the Evangelist, is our beloved father, H.H. Pope Tawadros II. The word “copt” is an ancient word that now refers to the Christians who are the descendants of the ancient Egyptians and had converted to Christianity in the first few centuries of the Church.
The Christian church of Egypt was prophesied of in the Old Testament book of Isaiah saying "In that day there will be an altar to the LORD in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to the LORD at its border." (Isa 19:19).
The Coptic Church is the known as the church of the martyrs (i.e. Christians who have been persecuted or killed for upholding their faith). It has endured several eras of persecution throughout its history under Roman and Arab rule and takes pride in honouring the lives of these saints.
