St. Philomena Children’s Home is a Coptic Orthodox Children’s Home in the Diocese of Melbourne and affiliated regions. We are dedicated to improve the life of Fijian disadvantaged children and realize their full potential. St. Philomena’s Home got approved to operate on the 10th August 2020 and certified on the 28th October 2020 by the Hon. Mereseini Vuniwaqa, the Minister of Women, Children & Poverty Alleviation in Fiji

We are all one in God's eyesIn Fiji, 45% of the population live below the national poverty line, more than 250,000 individuals. According to economic surveys, over 50% of the population live on less than FJD$25 a week and can not meet their basic needs. While half of the population live in the major cities and towns, the other half live in many of the smaller islands of which Fiji consists of in impoverished conditions. The poor households are generally uneducated and ill-skilled. They have difficulty finding and maintaining jobs hence they are trapped in the cycle of poverty.

A beautiful series of tropical islands found in the South Pacific, consisting of a population of 900,000 people of varying cultures and beliefs. Over 50% of the population are Christians while the remaining population are mainly Hindus and Muslims.Suva is the capital of Fiji which lies in Viti Levu. About three quarter of Fijians live on Viti Levi’s
coasts, either in Suva or in smaller urban centres such as Nadi- where tourism is the major local industry-or Lautoka, where the sugar cane industry is paramount. |
There are over 25,000 disadvantaged children living in Fiji. This corresponds with 10% of child population are abandoned or abused. High costs of school supplies, uniforms and transport make schooling inaccessible to many children among the Fiji Islands. Only 65% of children are enrolled in primary school and 33% in secondary school.Many children have basic shelter. Some children live in Slums, Squatters and poor resettlement areas.
